Making my teachers proud

‘The Monuments Men’, that’s the movie I’ll review today. I enjoyed it. Now that I’ve got the introducing part over with, I can skip to telling you a funny anecdote. So while I was deciding what pic to watch, my brother tells me I can borrow this new DVD he has lying around in his car. ‘CSI-something’ he says. It’s really good he promises me. So he goes on convincing me: “It’s got something to do with ‘Central Intelligence'”. That’s where I start laughing. He seems confused, but keeps on going. “It’s with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’. – I mean he literally said his full name.-  He’s my hero.” All I could say was ‘No, thanks.’ He got a little mad at me for laughing, but here it shows again how totally different people’s taste can be. I never expected to have ‘The Rock’-groupie in my bloodline though. – For those of you who don’t get this part: I did a review on ‘Central Intelligence‘ earlier and let’s just say it didn’t get the best possible rating.

Now back to today’s critique. I can actually summarize it by saying this film consists of a weird mixture of comedy, drama, feel-good, culture and history. Add on a full cast of huge star-actors and you’ve got yourself something never seen before. – At least I have never. – But you know, it works! It’s actually a nice movie, kind of surreal and not always as credible, but still nice.

It’s got a solid storyline taking you on a journey through Europe during wartime. As a multilingual European who’s gone on several school trips, it’s quite nice to recognize al the  languages, city-names and artworks. Who would off ever thought all those hours of trying not to fall asleep on the high school-benches would actually pay off. So yes, it’s a rather enjoyable plot, but it’s not mind twisting or exhilarating. And like I said, it’s not always as credible. I’m not exactly sure what’s the cause of this. Maybe just too many well-know actors? Or just wanting to show too much in to small of a time span, so it doesn’t always come over natural? Whatever it is, it doesn’t ruin the experience for me.

Also, I’d like to give a shoutout to Nora Sagal for having the voice of an angel. I was going to say she had my body hair give her a standing ovation, but then I thought ‘clever joke, but also playwright ‘eww”. :p So let’s keep it at: she’ll give you goosebumps.

Anyway, a film well-worth your time if you’re into history and art. Don’t expect a full-on battle movie.
